DEPARTMENT OF PLANT PATHOLOGY
The Department of Plant Pathology is an integral part of the Faculty of Agriculture Science and Technology, College of Agriculture, University of Layyah. The major "Plant Pathology” was introduced for the first time in the B.Sc. (Hons.) Agriculture degree program during the academic session of 2016-2020. This department was officially established, however, in the year 2022. The primary objective of establishing this department was to educate and produce graduates who could significantly contribute to the advancement of agriculture in Southern Punjab. This region, predominated by farmers, faced numerous challenges with the identification and management of plants and diseases. Thus, the department's foundation was a strategic move aimed at alleviating these issues and improving agricultural practices in the area.

The department focuses on diverse research fields like Plant Disease Epidemiology, Phyto Bacteriology, Mycology, Plant Virology, Plant Nematology, Plant Disease Management and Plant Microbe Interaction, emphasizing farmer-oriented problems. It has a well-set lab and degree programs approved by university bodies and councils. The Department is accredited by the National Agricultural Education Accreditation Council, HEC, and provides students with top-notch field experiment facilities. Several graduated students are serving in different positions in institutes and sectors.
The faculty aims to foster an environment conducive to both individual and professional growth, focusing not just on factual knowledge but also on intellectual development. It is credited with executing Higher Education Commission-funded research projects in Pakistan. The faculty is known for developing economically viable and environmentally safe pest and disease control technologies accessible to all. The faculty members, over 80% of whom hold PhDs, have published numerous research papers and books globally and have research experience in Plant Pathology from various countries. The department, known for its practical and theoretical training in Plant Pathology, welcomes students seeking a research-oriented career.
