The Department of Entomology & Food Science at the University of Layyah is committed to advancing education, research, and innovation in the vital areas of insect science, food safety, and sustainable agriculture. This department offers a unique interdisciplinary approach that combines the study of insects, crop protection, and food quality management, preparing students to address the challenges of food security and agricultural sustainability in Pakistan and beyond.
Insects play a crucial role in ecosystem balance, pollination, pest management, and food production. At the same time, maintaining food quality and safety is a national priority for health and economic growth. The Department of Entomology & Food Science integrates these two domains — understanding insect biology and managing food systems — to ensure sustainable agricultural productivity and safe, nutritious food supplies for society.
The curriculum is developed in line with the Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan’s academic framework, ensuring that students receive a rigorous education rooted in scientific research, laboratory practice, and real-world application.
The Department of Entomology & Food Science aims to:
Impart a strong foundation in insect biology, taxonomy, and pest management.
Equip students with expertise in food processing, quality assurance, and safety management systems.
Promote sustainable agricultural practices through integrated pest management (IPM).
Encourage research and innovation in entomology, food science, and biotechnology.
Prepare graduates for professional careers in agriculture, food industries, research institutions, and public service.
